We used about 16 railroad ties attached to salvaged railroad tracks set in concrete by Durham artist Al Frega. The ties were stacked and pinned with rebar and also attached to the railroad tracks with bolts and washers through holes cut in the tracks with a torch by Al.
We left some spaces to give it some texture and we staggered the ends as well. It makes a nice privacy wall for the neighbor next-door and it doubles as a bike rack!
Thanks to Bradley King for the help with the heavy lifting and thinking about design.
Thanks to Coby Linton for the brain power and creativity in narrowing down the overall design.
Thanks to Leon and Areli, and to David Solow for having me aboard as part of a great team of artists that were part of this warm and inviting neighborhood space.
